Cookie Settings
Here you configure the cookie banner shown to customers in the storefront, as well as the categories cookies are grouped into. You can also see analytics on how your visitors respond to the banner.
What can I do here?
- Enable/disable the cookie banner and set its title and description text
- Set the banner's position and default behavior (opt-in/opt-out)
- Decide whether "Reject all" and "Customize" are shown as buttons
- Add a link to your privacy policy
- View the configured cookie categories
- Analyze how many visitors accepted/rejected (by date range and category)
Step by step
- Open "Cookie Settings" and switch to the "Configuration" tab.
- Turn on the "Banner active" switch so the banner appears in the storefront.
- Adjust title, description and position (bottom/top/centered).
- Choose the default behavior: "Opt-in" (recommended, cookies only active after consent) or "Opt-out".
- Add the link to your privacy policy and save.
- Switch to the "Analytics" tab to see how many visitors consented — optionally filtered by a date range.

Values & statuses
Position
| Value | Plain meaning | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Bottom | Banner appears at the bottom of the screen | Default position |
| Top | Banner appears at the top of the screen | — |
| Centered | Banner appears centered on the screen | Behaves like a modal dialog |
Default behavior
| Value | Plain meaning | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Opt-in (recommended) | Non-essential cookies start disabled | They only get set once the visitor actively consents |
| Opt-out | Historic value, no longer has any effect in the shop | The shop behaves like opt-in either way: optional categories are never pre-ticked in the notice, and no consent-requiring script loads before the decision. A pre-ticked box is not valid consent |
How the decision takes effect in the shop
The cookie notice is the only place where your visitors decide about cookies. What they pick there directly controls what the shop loads:
| Category | What depends on it |
|---|---|
| Necessary | Always on, cannot be switched off (cart, sign-in, language setting) |
| Analytics | Google Analytics. Without consent the Google script is never loaded in the first place |
| Marketing | The three Google advertising signals (ad storage, ad user data, ad personalisation) |
| Preferences | Convenience features without measurement |
Important for your reports: analytics and marketing are separate. If a visitor consents to analytics only, Google measures usage but does not use the data for advertising.
Nothing loads before the decision. While the notice is open, neither the Google script nor any measurement storage exists in the browser. Only after consent to analytics does loading start, and even then the shop first reports "everything denied" and immediately afterwards the actual state.
Withdrawing is as easy as consenting. After the decision, a "Cookie settings" button stays permanently in the bottom left. One click reopens the notice with the current state; every change takes effect immediately, with no page reload.
Category type
| Value | Plain meaning | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Required | Visitor cannot disable this category | E.g. technically necessary cookies |
| Optional | Visitor can enable/disable this category | E.g. statistics or marketing cookies |
Frequently asked questions
What does "Opt-in" actually mean for my visitors?
With opt-in, all non-essential cookies (e.g. for statistics or marketing) stay disabled until the visitor explicitly consents. This is the more privacy-friendly setting and is usually required in the EU.
Where can I see how many visitors have consented?
The "Analytics" tab shows the total number of consents, the acceptance rate per category, and a daily trend. Use the date fields to narrow the time range.
Can I create my own cookie categories?
The categories shown on this page are managed centrally; you can view them here but cannot add new ones directly.
Why does "Opt-out" no longer do anything?
Because a default of "consented" is not consent: a pre-ticked box does not count as agreement in the EU, and a script that loads before the decision cannot be taken back afterwards. The shop therefore always behaves like opt-in. The value is only kept so existing settings are not lost.
My visitors decided once before. Will they be asked again?
No. Anyone who had already consented to analytics measurement keeps that consent. It explicitly applies to analytics only: marketing stays rejected until the visitor selects it themselves. Anyone who declined back then stays on "declined".
What happens if your banner configuration cannot be retrieved?
Then the shop shows no notice and loads no consent-requiring scripts either. Without a decision, nothing is measured.
